The Ratti family is legendary in Barolo. Renato Ratti bought a tiny parcel of land and set up a rough and ready winery inside the abandoned Abby dell’Annunziata. In 1965, he made his first Marcenasco cru wine, deriving its name from the historical name of the region. He later went on to create the first map of all the Barolo crus. Upon his passing in 1988, his son Pietro assumed the winemaker’s role, where he has been ever since. More devoted to the land’s expression year-to-year, than to defining himself as traditional or modern; he gains high praise from enthusiasts in both camps.
Nestled in the heart of Barolo’s La Morra commune, this family is a cornerstone from this elite site, known for its softer style of this famously tannic wine. Boasting bottlings from Rocche del’Annunziata, Conca, and Serradenari vineyards, Ratti is a standard-bearer for these extravagant, perfumed wines.
